The health and safety of our children is of paramount importance and the preparation of food demands the very highest of standards. For many years, our food hygiene inspections have consistently resulted in 5* ratings. It has always been reassuring to know that visiting environmental health officers have deemed our catering department to be fully compliant and meticulous in terms of processes and procedures. Consequently, it is very disappointing that our most recent environmental health inspection highlighted a number of areas where we were assessed to be non-compliant. The highlighted areas of non-compliance were addressed immediately and all points for improvement have been actioned. However these issues should never have been permitted to occur in the first place and so the school is undertaking a full investigation into the circumstances that led to this situation and the investigative panel will include an independent consultant external to the school. No amount of successful inspections can detract from the fact that, on this occasion, processes and procedures within the department were found to be non-compliant. Of course, the robustness of our response means that processes in our kitchens are now significantly more rigorous and more carefully monitored than ever before. We aspire to achieve excellence in every aspect of school life and, in this most important of areas, we will not permit ourselves to settle for anything less than absolute excellence. We have now applied for re-assessment and expect this to confirm our belief, and the assessment of a recent external audit, that we are fully compliant and our standards are of the highest quality.
