The management of Queen Victoria Hospital’s Catering Department would like to provide the following context and updates following the food hygiene rating of 2 received after the inspection on 21st March 2025.

Since the inspection, we've proactively progressed with several key projects, some of which were already underway prior to the visit, to further strengthen our department.

These include the complete relocation of the chemical store to a dedicated and properly ventilated area, entirely separate from all food handling areas. This planned work has now been fully implemented.

The replacement of all chopping boards with new, colour-coded sets has also been completed to further reinforce our cross-contamination prevention measures.

All new catering staff are given brand new, clean, protective clothing from day one and have received thorough food safety induction training.

Staff have received further rigorous training to ensure impeccable record keeping in future.

To ensure absolute clarity regarding storage, patient newspapers have been removed entirely from the catering department.

The broader structural improvements within the catering department that were already scheduled are now currently underway. These planned enhancements will further elevate our facilities and support the consistent maintenance of high hygiene standards.
