The report has been discussed in detail with the Council’s officer, the college is confident that the grading is not due to concerns relating to either food hygiene or food safety. The grading is due to the absence of a policy document and specifically failing to implement such a policy following the last inspection in 2023.
The college immediately addressed the issue and the Council’s officer subsequently revisited the site and has confirmed that everything is now in order. Nevertheless, the report will be issued as a grade 1. The college will seek a reassessment as soon as possible. We have been told this is likely to be mid to late June.
We have also commissioned an external specialist consultancy to carry out a review of food hygiene practices with Taste and will be implementing procedures as recommended.
The college understands the importance of providing a safe and healthy environment for everyone in our college community and is fully committed to delivering this to our students, staff and visitors. If we believed there was any risk we would cease operations, but in this unusual situation, despite the grading, we are confident the refectory is a safe environment.
